The stone-clad twelve storey building in Commercial Palazzo style was designed by CH McKellar and built in 1929. On the corner is a sign reading 'Walk Thru, No-one asked to buy', with 'Gowings Corner' on the awning. In the foreground are pedestrians and traffic. In the background on the left hand side is the State Theatre at 49 to 51 Market Street.
