Designed by James Nangle it was built in 1906 for Marcus Clark and Co department store and modelled on New Yorks Flatiron building. Situated on a narrow but prominent site at Railway Square, it was the tallest building in Sydney at the time. It later housed a Youth Hostel. In the foreground are pedestrians, trees, traffic and parked vehicles.
