An Old Colonial Georgian style mansion with Victorian Regency features, it was built in 1823 with a design attributed to Francis Greenway. During the 20th century it operated as a hostel for aged and infirm women, run first by the Order of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan then by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, then was used as a hospital, clinic and for administration by the New South Wales Society for Crippled Children until 1988.
