Designed by Edmund Blacket, the sandstone Gothic style church with a square tower and turret was built from 1848 to 1912, with the rectory designed by John Burcham Clamp. After the Second World War, the decline of the local Anglican congregation and the rise of the Orthodox migrant settlers led to the sale of the church in 1967 to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia. It was consecrated in 1970 and became the seat of the incumbent Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Australia.
