The cricket oval was bounded by Morehead Street, Kettle Street, Curtis Street, Walker Street, Bilston Street, Alderson Street, Elizabeth Street and Phillips Street. View showing crowds of onlookers (men, women and children) watching athletic sports and a gas balloon ascent.
The oval, which opened in 1864, was Redfern's first major sporting facility.

This photo appeared in the City of Sydney's 2017 exhibition "Our City - 175 Years in 175 Objects" - Item 159 - Inspiring - Sport - Albert Cricket Ground Redfern, 1877 (pages 188-189 in exhibition catalogue)
