Unique IDOR-0003DescriptionThe Municipality of The Glebe (we have preferred the more common recent truncation of the title to "Glebe") was incorporated in 1859. The boundaries ran from Rozelle bay and Blackwattle bay (N) to Parramatta Rd (S), and followed Orphan School Creek and Johnson's Creek (W), and Bay St including Wentworth park (E). Orphan School Creek is now a covered stormwater channel feeding into Johnson's Creek at Wigram Rd behind the former Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital. More precise boundary and Ward lines can be found on the Higginbotham & Robinson map of the Municipality dating from c1886. Glebe was divided into Inner Glebe, Outer Glebe, Bishopthorpe and Forest Lodge wards. From 1 January 1949 Glebe Municipal Council was abolished, and the area became part of the City of Sydney. Leichhardt Municipal Council took over responsibility for Glebe from the City in 1968.CreationNSW Gazette, 3 August 1859AbolitionLocal Government (Areas) Act 1948
