South Sydney City Council Human Resources Department

Unique IDAG-0038DescriptionPursuant to the City of Sydney Act 1988, proclaimed 2 December 1988, the Council of the City of South Sydney, composed of six departments, was established. One of these was the Human Resources Department. It was responsible for implementing Council's policies on equal employment opportunity, personnel functions, staff safety and rehabilitation, payroll preparation, data input, and others.

The Department inherited the functions of CA 13, Industrial Relations Department, for employees of the new South Sydney City Council, including all personnel matters related to employees transferred to South Sydney from the Sydney City Council. It is composed of four branches which perform the following functions:

Personnel Branch: staff counselling, recruitment, training, workers compensation, planning and equal employment opportunity.

Safety Branch: coordinates rehabilitation and preventative strategies, accident investigation, Occupational Health and Safety training.

Industrial Relations Branch: industrial relations negotiations and award conditions.

Payroll Branch: payroll preparation.

In SSCC Annual Reports this agency is sometimes referred to as "Human Resources" and sometimes as "Employment Services".
