Unique IDAG-0102DescriptionThe Sydney Corporation Amendment Act 1908 gave Council the statutory powers to establish and maintain within its boundaries free reading and lending libraries. Under this Act Council took over control of the Lending Branch of the Public Library of NSW.
Initially this Committee was appointed to formulate a scheme and report to the Finance Committee on the transfer of the Library to Council. Once this had been accomplished its responsibilities were to deal with all matters affecting the policy and working of the Library, including approval of the purchase of books and passing of accounts, establishment of new branches and the closure of the Library for stocktaking.
When Council was replaced by Commissioners in 1928, the Commissioners decided that the Chief Commissioner would act in place of the Sub-Committee.CreationResolution of Finance Committee 1 July 1909AbolitionResolution of Council 27 March 1928
