Unique IDAG-0125DescriptionSouth Sydney Municipal Council was a corporation elected under the Local Government (City of Sydney Boundaries) Act No. 48 of 1967. The Council was formed by excising the Northcott Ward of Sydney City Council and creating a separate municipality, which was known until 1 December 1968 as Northcott Municipal Council.
The first meeting of the Council was held on 1 August 1968. Until elections were held in 1969, the Council was three Commissioners, the Chief Commissioner Vernon H Treatt, the Deputy Chief Commissioner and Deputy Mayor John Alexander Lachlan Shaw, and Commissioner W W Pettingell. These three were also the Commissioners for Sydney City Council.
The last meeting of the Commissioners was 24 September 1969. The first meeting of an elected Council was 7 October 1969.
