Unique IDAG-0169DescriptionAt a meeting held in his room on 29 July 1959, the Lord Mayor proposed that a Command Performance be held in aid of charity. Present were a group of representatives of various charities, members of the public and councillors. At a subsequent meeting, a general committee was appointed, to be known as the 1959 Lord Mayor's Command Performance Committee. Later minute books, however, refer to the committee responsible for the Lord Mayor's Tivoli Command Performance.
The object of the Committee, as set out in the rules listed in the Minute Books, was to organise and control a function (the performance) to provide funds for charitable organisations. It was an external committee, made up of members from within the council, as well as from the general public. It was chaired by the Lord Mayor.
The Committee met up to five times each year to discuss matters such as venue, ticket prices, expenditures, charity distributions and participating artists. Tasks were delegated amongst the Committee's members at these meetings.
The last performance was held in 1966.CreationLord Mayor's Authority, 29 July 1959AbolitionResolution of the Committee, 3 March 1967
