Cultural and Community Services Committee

Unique IDAG-0241DescriptionOn 13 September 2004, CA 241, Cultural and Community Services Committee, 2004+ was formed following the abolition of two standing committees:
CA 187, Community Services, Small Business and Tourism Committee, 1999-2004; and CA188, Cultural and City Care Committee, 1999-2004. The functions of these abolished committees were assigned to either CA 241, Cultural and Community Services Committee 2004+ or CA 228, Environment and Heritage Committee, 2004+ (now known as the Environment Committee 2004 +).

Functions of the CA 241, Cultural and Community Services Committee, 2004+ includes: a) Arts (including visual and performing) and culture within the City of Sydney; b) City of Sydney events, programs and activities; c) assistance to community and cultural organisations; d) Community Services, e) recreation services; f) library services; g) cultural and social diverstiy; h) cultural, social and economic disadvantage; i) operational and promotional issues relating to restaurants and hotels; j) liquor licensing; k) community housing; l) cultural venue management; m) small business and retailing; n) tourism; o) the film industry; and p) Gratns and Sponsorships.

At the Extraordinary Council meeting on Friday September 2012, Council decided to exercise the functions of the committee through two subcommittees - the Cultural subcommittee (to deal with the functions in respect of cultural matters) and the Community subcommittee (for community matters). CreationResolution on Council 13 September 2004 brought about by the re-amalgamation of City and South Sydney Councils in February 2004.
