In 1971, he graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Town Planning first class honours. After graduation, he worked on the Campbelltown-Camden new City Project at the State Planning Authority of New South Wales, now the Department of Planning.
He began his career with Council on 25 July 1972 when he was appointed as Senior Research Planner in the new Strategic Planning Branch of the Planning and Building Department. the Strategic Planning Branch was set up following a recommendaiton in Council's 1971 Strategic Plan that a professional Planning Unit be established. The
Strategic Planning Branch was heavily involved in the preparation of Council's strategic and action plans. Some of the files created by Nash as Planner deal with Action Study 5, Planning Information system and Action Plans for Circular Quay, Pitt Street, Pyrmont, South Paddington, West Rocks, Chippendale and the Central Business District.
Nash was also involved in the computerisation of Council's information systems, including VOSS (Valuation Ownership & Sales System), DABA (Development Application & Building application) System, and BAS (Building Activity System). The BAS contains information about land use in the City.
He also held office with the Australian Urban and Regional Information System Association (AURISA). AURISA holds annual URPIS (Urban and Regional Pla nning Information Systems) Conferences. Nash was involved in the organisation of the 1982 conference, while he was President.
In 1984, Nash was appointed director of the newly created CA 4, Information Systems Department. The Department was responsible for computer services, records and archives, the building activity section, corporate development and media relations.
In 1991, Council adopted a new management structure made up of Divisions. Nash was made manager of the Corporate Services Division, which was responsible for the financial management, employee service, information technology (including records and archives), and risk management.
In 1993 Council went through further adminsitrative change and Nash became Assistant General Manager of the Corporate and Business Services Division, which is responsible for environmental management, fleet management, information system (including records and archives) management, properties management and maintenance and parking operations.Relationship legacy dataRELATED TO: Town planning FN-0011
