Unique IDAY-0114DescriptionIn 1986 the City Council set up a Committee (of Council and external members) to investigate possible regulation of prostitution in East Sydney. The Committee operated only for a few months in 1986.
When the boundary changes that came into force on 8 May 2003 transferred part of South Sydney City Council's area back to the City, the City also acquired areas (such as Darlinghurst and Kings Cross) where the sex industry (brothels, street workers) has a high profile. The City established a programme specifically to cover this, headed by a Sex Industry Liaison Officer, and began to implement policies such as 'anti clustering' (to prevent undue concentrations of sex industry premises). Much of this was a continuation of initiatives developed by South Sydney Council during the 1990s.CreationSubject to research.
