On 27 August 1975, South Sydney Municipal Council resolved to convert its rates and valuation procedures to computer process. The work was given to Bankstown Municipal Council Computer Bureau who created this series. It was the responsibility of the South Sydney Municipal Council Deputy Town Clerks Department (AG-0020).

The entries include the following information:
- name and address of owner
- number of assessment and
- a lot description identifying the property in the Registrar General's records.

It is believed the record was used for a checking operation - most names have been ticked (in case of joint ownership both names have been ticked).

Information from the rate file is also reported on the 1977 rate levy lists which is printed in assessment number order.
