The plans are all original and drawn on linen except one paper copy of Number 6. All are signed by the City Surveyor.

The construction of a destructor is suggested in the Annual Report of the Town Clerk for 1898 as an alternative to dumping rubbish at Moore Park. In 1901, on the recommendation of the Health Committee, Council accepted a quote by English firm Goddard, Massey and Warner to provide a "Perfectus" destructor. The destructor was put into commission on 25 April 1902.

In the years following Council reconstructed and extended the Destructor and the drawings in this series reflect such work.
