Index Map to Sydney Sections Detail Sheets and Trig Survey, 1856-1934

Unique IDAS-0503DateBetween 1st January 1856 and 1st January 1934Date qualifiercircaFormatMapDescriptionThis series contains two identical maps of Sydney mounted on a single sheet of cardboard. The maps are authorised by the Town Clerk Roy Hendy and City Engineer Mr Garney and were published in 1934.

The maps have been annotated to provide an index to three series of plans. These series of plans are all arranged into a sequence of plan numbers, the numbers correspond to sections of Sydney - the sections are not the same for each series. One map controls "old Sydney Sections", a series of original drawings in the custody of the City Engineer's Department Plans Custodian.

The other map controls CRS 502, Detail Sheets, 1855-1906. The City is broken into relevant sections and outlined in red pen with the corresponding section/plan number. This map also shows by a broken line the plan numbers for a trigonometric survey completed by the Surveyor General's office in 1877 and apparently used in the Department.

An original index map is included in CRS 502, Detail Sheets 1855-1906 (see item 34 on A91/157). It is possible this copy was made for display and convenience in the plans room.
