The materials were donated to Council's Historian, Dr. Shirley Fitzgerald by Evelyn Molony, McIvor's daughter.

McIvor was an Alderman for Gipps Ward from 4 June 1904 until his death on 24 August 1907. The collection includes a scrapbook of newspaper cuttings about McIver, the Council, developments in Sydney, and the City Surveyor William Gordon. Many of the articles are critical of the Council. It also includes a photograph of McIvor and his wife Kathleen, an illuminated address presented to McIvor on his election to Council, postcards, business and greeting cards, and newspaper clippings about the death of McIvor.

When Mrs. Molony donated the papers to Council she gave Dr. Fitzgerald the following information about the family. Alderman McIvor was a hairdresser at 24 Grosvenor Street at the time of his death in 1907. He had two daughters with his wife Kathleen, one of whom was Evelyn. The family lived in Gloucester Street, in a place run by Mrs. Wallis, owned by the Sydney Harbour Trust. After McIvor's death Kathleen was "assisted" by the Council by being granted a lease on the Council's baths at the Domain for the Refreshment Room. She also received a Council flat in Dowling Street, Woolloomooloo, which the family occupied until Kathleen re-married. Kathleen had two children by her second marriage to ? Hanley.
