DescriptionThis letter register series comprises 16 mm rolls of microfilm (1978-1988) and microfiche (1988+) copies of correspondence received by Council's Records Section. It does not include correspondence addressd to and received by the Lord Mayor, which was handled separately by the Lord Mayor's Office, or mail that was addressed personally to staff members.

The correspondence was filmed in the order in which it was received by Council and before the correspondence was classified. Therefore the letters on the microfilm do not have file numbers on them. To gain access to a particular letter you would need to know the approximate date when the letter was received by Council.

The series was created at the request of Council's Audit Section so that there would be a record of incoming mail and its date of receipt. The microfilm is not indexed.
