The indexes are arranged alphabetically by subject of the letter and record the date of receipt of the letter, the writer, the subject, and the related file number.

Although these indexes date from 1950, the files date from 1929. It is not clear whether the early indexes have been lost or another system was used to index the files. The first volumes of the indexes, 1950, is numbered as Number 1 on the spine.

The indexes are housed in 3-post binders from 1950 to 1964, and thereafter in 2-post binders.
