The project commenced with coverage of the City Open Day in July 2000 which was used partly as a trial run for the Council's Olympic city management systems. It ended with the post-games street parade of Olympic volunteer workers.

The project was managed by Trish Wilkinson of the Major Events Unit in the Office of the General Manager (Office of the CEO and Councillor Support AG-0107).
The photographers were Council staff selected for their photographic skills and include: Grahame Edwards, Steve Sycz, Tanya Koorey, Col Tinkler, Eva Rodriguez-Riestra.

The purpose of the project was to capture a bank of images showing the impact of the Olympics on the streets and public places of the City, and to record the Council's staff and programs (such as street entertainment, cleansing, health inspections, homeless persons outreach) in action.

The total number of images is estimated at 15,000. Of these, about 10% have been digitised. Most are 35mm colour transparencies in strips. A small number of square format 135mm transparencies are also included. A small selection of photographs are digital only.

The original images are arranged by date, then by film roll number. The transparencies from each roll have been placed in a single sleeve.
