He was a merchant and an auctioneer. Moore was Mayor in 1867-1869. Prior to his election to Council, he was an Alderman of the Randwick Municipal Council and a member of the Botany-Randwick Coogee Roads Trust. It was during Moore's mayoralty that the site for the Sydney Town Hall was acquired and foundation stone laid and Macquarie Street was extended to Circular Quay. He is best remembered for his work in establishing Council's legal ownership and improvement of the Sydney Common, 100 acres of sandy waste land, which Council renamed Moore Park. Moore Street now known as Martin Place was also named after him. He was elected MLA for East Sydney in 1874 and raised to the Legislative Council, 1880-1895. He was born on 29 August 1820 and died on 4 July 1895. Australian Dictionary of Biography.
