An asphalt laying machine is in operation on the roadway, watched by a lot of workmen, with a City Council of Sydney number 7 steam roller waiting in front of it to level the laid asphalt. City Council of Sydney trucks are parked on the right, the front one being an International Harvester. On the left is the Zetland Hotel at 936-938 Bourke Street with a local shop selling Coca-Cola and Streets products further down on the left and Best Welding further along at number 956-958. On the right is the printing and stationery business of William Brooks and Company at 725 Elizabeth Street. Further along on the right is an ANZ bank branch at 1029 Bourke Street followed by Lampak and Company at 1033-1035 Bourke Street. Cars parked on the right are a Vauxhall and a Holden.
