Unique IDA-00064568SeriesPublic Relations Photograph Library, 1989-2022DateBetween 1st January 2003 and 31st December 2003Date qualifieryear onlyFormatPhotograph - DigitalDescriptionLooking west across First Government House Place, schoolchildren are at the art installation, Edge of the Trees, created by Wondunna Clan of the Badtjala nation artist Fiona Foley, and artist Janet Laurence. This was the site of the first contact between the British colonisers and the Gadigal people. The sculpture evokes the cultural and physical history of the site, before and after the pivotal turning point of 1788 when contact and invasion / colonisation took place. The name is from historian Rhys Jones' essay 'Ordering the Landscape'.
