Henry Graham, the Health Officer, provides his quarterly report (1st March 1863 to 31st May 1863) of the sanitary condition of the city along with a table of mortality. He notes that one half of the total number of births results in death and attributes a large number of these to lack of knowledge of infantile hygiene. He reports that great improvements have been made to the sewerage system with the extension of superficial drainage but that a lot more has to be done.
