The original view was recorded as a sketch by John Rae (1813 - 1900) who held the position of town clerk between 1843 and 1857. In the 1890s, Rae assembled sets of photographs of his views of Sydney. This set was presented to Charles Woolcott, Rae's successor as town clerk.
