Nearly 15,000 people gathered at Martin Place near the Cenotaph to honour the fallen and give thanks for the sacrifices made during World War I. The Cenotaph is surrounded by wreaths and bouquets of flowers, and guarded by members of the armed services. Beyond the Cenotaph are ranks of airmen, and behind a barrier a large group of spectators extending under the portico of the General Post Office, 1 George Street.
