Sewerage
This collection is about Council's responsibility for sewerage.
Council first planned sewerage system commenced in the 1850s, designed by City Engineer Edward Bell. It was built at the same time as the water supply.
Sewerage pipes connected to each house joined an outfall system. Raw sewerage was discharged into Sydney Harbour at Blackwattle Bay, Darling Harbour, Sydney Cove, Bennelong Point and Woolloomooloo Bay.
The Board of Water Supply and Sewerage NSW was created in 1880 and took the responsibility over from Council.
While Council had responsibility, annual reports were submitted and can be found in the Reports of the Finance Committee.
