The volumes are indexed alphabetically by the subject of the report. DescriptionThis series contains reports presented by the Finance Committee to meetings of Council. They were created by the By-Laws Committee (AG-0113) in the period 02/05/1857 to 06/10/1864 and the Finance Committee I (AG-0124) in the period 20/04/1857 to 24/11/1898.

Other Finance Committee reports (including earlier and some later reports) are contained in Committee Reports (AS-0021) and Printed Materials (AS-0030).

The volumes are indexed alphabetically by the subject of the report. Each report was numbered and any associated reports from Council officers and correspondence were attached to the report. This includes correspondence that was registered as part of Letters Received (AS-0026) but was then removed from AS-0026 and placed with the relevant committee reports.

These attachments can include lengthy reports by Council officers, linen plans, petitions, specifications for building works, and extended correspondence from various people relating to the subject. For example, recommendations on salaries paid to officers are usually accompanied by letters from the officers seeking increases and applications to deviate from the requirements of the City of Sydney Improvement Act are followed by numerous letters from architectural firms with sketches.

Any action that involved expenditure of money was referred to the Finance Committee so this series contains items on a wide variety of subjects.
