Adelphi Theatre is on the left. Commercial buildings incl. L on cnr J.J. Ford & Co & Masonic Hall (No. 283) and R Fong Lee Jang & Co on cnr Campbell St & Castlereagh Lodging Houses Residential Chambers Open to the Public. Building under construction at R is the Rickards Building on "The Island Block" bounded by Elizabeth, Hay, Castlereagh and Campbell Streets, Haymarket. Its one of the shortest lived buildings in Sydneys CBD. The old St. Francis Church and school were demolished in 1909, then for a period during 1910-11 the open-air OLYMPIA THEATRE leased the site. Rickards Building was completed by autumn 1914, designed by architects Eaton & Bates who were also responsible for design of Joseph Mirgorodskys CENTRAL PICTURE PALACE within the building (395-397 Elizabeth-st).
