Unique IDAG-0089DescriptionThe first Audit Department (CA 83), existed from 1899 to 1931 when it was disbanded due to serious defalcations being discovered in the collection of rents in CA 79, Corporation Assets and Stores Department. The positions of General Auditor and Deputy General Auditor were abolished, and the duties and functions of the Department became a branch of the Town Clerk's Department. On 11 July 1938, the Audit Department was reconstituted as a Department with Alfred Sydney Shirley appointed as City Auditor. It was abolished on 8 March 1971 and the audit function went to CA 3, Administration Department.
The Department was responsible for checking and verification of financial transactions and issue of stores, plant and assets; ensuring regulations relating to stores, plant, clothing, receipt of monies etc were adhered to by Council departments; and reconciliation of accounts.Creation11-Jul-38Abolition8-Mar-71
