Unique IDAG-0129DescriptionThe full name of the Fund was the Lord Mayor's Patriotic and War Fund of New South Wales. It was established at a public meeting called by Lord Mayor Sir Norman Nock on 13 September 1939. It was not a committee of Council but the Lord Mayor was the President of the Fund, and the Lady Mayoress, Town Clerk, Deputy Town Clerk, City Treasurer, City Auditor, and Lord Mayor's Secretary all had honorary positions of the Fund.
The other members included heads of government departments, business associations, newspaper editors, voluntary associations, churches, political parties, and womens' associations.
The objects of the Fund were to "provide comforts, equipment and entertainment for sailors, soldiers, airmen, nurses, medical and ambulance services, and any other persons engaged on behalf of the British Commonwealth of Nations and/or her Allies in activities necessary by reason of the state of war ...monetary and other assistance to ... dependants and ... memorials to commemorate the memory of any of the aforementioned persons".
