Unique IDAG-0130DescriptionThe object of the Fund was to provide additional amenities and assistance to the aged within the City of Sydney. The Management Committee consisted of the Lord Mayor, who was also President, the Town Clerk, the Deputy Town Clerk, the City Treasurer, the Lord Mayor's Secretary, the Lady Mayoress, a social welfare officer, the General Manager of 2GB Radio Station, a religious broadcaster, and two clergymen.
The first meeting of the Fund was held on 8 October 1959. Donations received from various bodies were spent on Meals on Wheels services, amenities for senior citizens centres, Christmas and Easter hampers, parties, luncheons.
At the Annual General Meeting of the Fund on 15 February 1983, the meeting decided that "subject to the Council agreeing to take over responsibility of providing food hampers for the recipients of Meals on Wheels at the Easter and Christmas holiday periods it may be desirable that the Fund be dissolved".
