Unique IDAG-0228DescriptionAt the extraordinary meeting of Council Friday 21 September 2012, the Committee previously known as the CA 228, Environment and Heritage Committee, 2004+ became known as the CA 228, Environment Committee, 2004+, losing the function relating to Heritage (which was assigned to a subcommittee of the CA 186 Planning and Development Committee). The committee was originally formed out of the abolishment of two standing committees: CA 187, Community Services, Small Business and Tourism Committee, 1999-2004; and CA188, Cultural and City Care Committee 1999-2004. The functions of these abolished committees were assigned to either CA 241, Cultural and Community Services Committee, 2004+ or CA 228, Environment and Heritage Committee, 2004+.
The functions of the CA 228, Environment Committee, 2004+ are : a) Environment management and sustainability; b) Design of City of Sydney projects, eg, public spaces, parks, city buildings and community facilities; c) Urban infrastructure, particularly roads, stormwater, drainage and footpaths; d) Parks and open spaces; e) Street trees; f) Street and footpath maintenance and cleaning; g) Graffiti removal; h) Waste and recycling; i) Street furniture; j) Street lighting; and k) Grants and sponsorships.
Committees and Sub-Committeee serve only as advisory to Council and have no independent role, except where specific authorities are delegated to them by Council.CreationResolution of Council 13 September 2004
