The committee was preceded by the Properties, Housing and Works Committee Agenda Papers (AS-0445).

The Works Committee was one of four Standing Committees created on 7 April 1987 during a Special Meeting of the Commissioners who had replaced the Sydney City Council. The Committee was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Sir Nicholas Shehadie.

The Committee was responsible for departmental maintenance, including street construction and drainage, street cleaning and garbage collection, the Moore Park parking area, fruit barrows, and licensing of footways relating to outdoor eateries.

The items in the agenda paper are listed on the cover on orange paper. Every item listed has a file number, site location and brief description of the subject and the date and time of the meeting. In some cases, the previous Council decision on the items in the agenda are shown. The agenda papers are attached to the cover and contain the file number, subject and address of the project, recommendation of the relevant department, Council action, funds certification, sketch plans, cost estimates, housing allocations and other relevant papers.
