The plans were drawn for work requiring input and/or approval from both Council and the Department. The drawings include sections along kerbs for woodpaving, proposed drawlines and sections of retaining walls.

The plans are arranged by office copy number, which consists of a G3 prefix followed by a plan number and sheet number where appropriate. This series is controlled by [CRS 504], Street Index Cards. In some cases like plans are grouped under one number, e.g. all underground cables drawings have a G3-76 prefix.

The G3 series of plans was microfilmed as part of the Microfilming of City Engineer's Plans Project. The majority of "G3" plans were temporary and were therefore destroyed after microfilming. However, original drawings are retained permanently in this series.
