This project was carried out during 1990-1991 as part of the events to commemorate the sesquicentenary of the Council (1842-1992).

The restoration project was managed by Howard Tanner and Associates Pty Ltd, heritage architects and planners (52 Albion Street Surry Hills NSW 2010, Tel (02) 281-4399). As part of the documentation of the project, Howard Tanner arranged for a contract photographer, Mr Pieter Stroethoff (Stroethoff Photography, 18 Wabash Avenue Cremorne NSW 2090, Tel (02) 971-8171), to photograph the restoration as it proceeded. Council received a complete set of the resulting prints under the arrangement made, but copyright in the photographs, and thus rights of further reproduction, remains with Mr Stroethoff.

This series contains very few of the prints made by Stroethoff. At the present time it is not known where they are located: the most likely locations are elsewhere in Council's Properties operation and/or in the files of the restoration (CRS 326), or in the photographic collection maintained by the Corporate Affairs Section, Information Systems.

Items (1) and (2) are arranged thematic in content, and item (5) consists mainly of sheets of contact prints. Items (3) and (4) contain strips of negatives arranged by a registration system imposed by Howard Tanner & Associates, an HT prefix and the year and roll number of the film.
