Records of Town Hall Restoration, 1990-1992

Unique IDAS-0729DateBetween 1st January 1990 and 1st January 1992Date qualifiercircaFormatBinderDescriptionThis series consists of the working documents accumulated by two Council officers who were heavily involved in the work of restoring the Town Hall during 1990-1991.

Box (1) was transferred from Council's Architect, George Bonakey. The other ten boxes are from Col Myers, the Plant & Trades Manager. Both worked in the Properties Department, and had supervisory and coordination responsibilities in respect of the various firms of contractors who carried out the restoration work.

Most of the documents are copies of papers on Council official files (CRS 326), or working papers (notes, memoranda) not placed on the official files. There are also copies of architectural drawings, and copies of contract and tender documents. Lastly, some original documents of legal significance are included: the Articles of Agreement with Gledhills; and a signed set of drawings for the roofing work.

The principal contracting firms for the restoration were: Howard Tanner & Associates (Heritage Architects); Group One Ltd (interior restoration work); Atlantic Civil Ltd (storm water and sewerage work); Gosford Quarries Ltd (sandstone and stairs restoration); and Gledhill Construction (roofing work).
