Food Premises License Cards (Yellow), 1940-1992

Unique IDAS-0881DateBetween 1st January 1940 and 1st January 1992Date qualifiercircaFormatCardDescriptionThe Sydney Corporation Act gave Council the power to "license, control and regulate premises for the storage and sale of meat, fish, fruit, or any article of human food prescribed by the Governor by proclamation published in the Gazette". (Sydney Corporation Act No 58, 1932).

The licenses were annual and details were recorded on yellow index cards known as "premises cards". Separate card systems for inspections (orange cards), and complaints (white cards), were also maintained.

The cards record the following information: street address; year ending (for license); number of receipt; date of application; series number; name (of licensee); amount of fee paid; date of license; and remarks.

Under the Local Government Act 1993, Council ceased to have the power to license food premises. The Health Section of the Urban Services Division still registers food premises, but this function is now computerised.
