Volumes 1 and 2 record details for new properties acquired by South Sydney Muncipal Council from its incorporation in 1968 to its amalgamation with the City of Sydney in 1981. Volumes 3, 4 and 5 were also created during this period but were used to document property acquisitions that took place before 1968.

Only Volume 1 is indexed by street address and each page records the following information: Folio number; related papers [usually refers to files in CRS 87, South Sydney Municipal Council General Correspondence Files, or CRS 82, South Sydney Municipal Council Deed Packets, or CRS 95, South Sydney Municipal Council Miscellaneous Files]; location; acquired from; how acquired; area; plan; title [not usually completed]; and Remarks. The Remarks column was used on an ad hoc basis to record information about purchase price, deposited plan numbers, and relevant Government Gazette numbers. The back of the page contains a plan showing the exact location of the site.

Volume 2 has a separate section at the rear of the volume that records acquisition details for properties such as Alexandria, Erskineville, Waterloo and Redfern Town Halls; Reg Cope, Gordon Ibbett, Cliff Noble, Ron Williams and Harry Burland Welfare Centres; 198 King Street Newtown; and reserves.

The covers of Volumes 1 and 2 are labelled as "Deeds Book 3" and "Deeds Book 4". It is likely that this was done sometime after 1989, when the volumes were in the custody of South Sydney City Council. A similar volume that was created by South Sydney City Council is labelled "Deeds Book 5". [See CRS 1117]. Two earlier volumes of City of Sydney Deeds Registers [CRS 1085], that were also in South Sydney City Council's custody from 1989, were originally labelled Deeds Registers No 1 and 2. It seems likely that South Sydney City Council numbered the later volumes to follow on from these earlier records.
