Unique IDA-00280405SeriesTown Clerk's Correspondence Folders, 1899-1913DateBetween 7th June 1901 and 14th June 1901Date qualifierexactFormatRegistered File - PhysicalDescriptionOn 7 June 1901, Edward Stack, the Honorary Secretary of the newly formed Australian Historical Society, wrote to the Lord Mayor (Sir James Graham) to request 'copies of photographs of any of the old historic buildings in the city, that have been demolished by order of the Municipal Council'. A file note on the reverse of this letter is from the City Building Surveyor, R H Brodrick, dated 14 June 1901. Brodrick stated that the NSW government had unfortunately ‘pulled many old buildings down without reference to the council's officers’ but that ‘still many of the buildings demolished by council’ were being photographed. The society was welcomed to come in and make a selection and obtain copies at cost but could not loan the negatives. Photographer Charles Kent of Murell & Co wrote to Brodrick on 13 June 1901 with a quote to make copies of the photographs of condemned buildings from the council’s negatives.
