Committee recommendations were: that the rights to the revenue arising from the tolls and dues imposed at the George Street Markets continue to be let by public auction as the difficulties of collection were best managed by someone with a personal interest in the matter; that the leases of stalls in sheds B and D should be sold by public auction thus establishing their true value although this might be to the detriment of long time stall holders; Council should let the stalls in Sheds A and C on a weekly basis as it is planned to make alterations to them; the revenue from tolls and dues at the Hay Corn and Cattle Market should continue to be auctioned; the Committee declared the Hay Corn and Cattle Market to be comprised of the land situated east of the Market Shed and bounded by Pit, Campbell and Hay Streets; the present use of the Campbell Street Market House as a grocery store should be allowed to continue, despite its being contrary to the purpose of a market, as the stalls available have not attracted use and tenders should be called for it; regarding the 6 lots of the Market Wharf, no 1 has been occupied by the abutment of the Pyrmont Bridge, no 2 has lost its water frontage, but lots 3 to 6 should be auctioned; the water fountains at HM Dockyard, Circular Quay, Soldiers Point and the pump at South Head Road should continue to be auctioned; the Committee submitted drafts for the articles and conditions of sale for the properties.
