William Cox complains of the dangerous state of Liverpool Street between Crown & Palmer Streets from cesspools in Darlinghurst Gaol. The ditch is 5 feet deep and in parts 10 feet deep and impassable even on horseback. He has been prosecuted for leaving building material on this street, whereas he is unable to use carts. Memo from City Surveyor states that this is part of the Riley Estate, allotments having been disposed of, with street & drainage yet to be formed, work to be done by the Owners, the City Commissioners to take charge afterwards.
