[Note: These three plumbing men employed together with Messrs Constable and Turner to put in about 18 stop cocks, each into the King Street main. If Mr Watson has sent in the charge made by Mr Fitzpatrick for the 18 cocks for King St. instead of another account for one cock they would no doubt appear to have been charged to him by the dozen at 6/9 each instead of 7/6 as the a/c for the single cock shews. It has not been uncustomary in this office to allow more for putting in one cock & service than if there were more because the preparation for a small job is nearly as much as a large one - though Mr Aitkin's and other plumbers have charged lately for single cocks only 7/- each I allowed this sum believing that 10/- each charged for 16 or 18 cocks by each of these plumbers was an imposition after they had undertaken to do the work on reasonable time.
