James Barnet, Colonial Architect, reporting that the lately constructed sewer from the Gaol at Darlinghurst has become stopped causing the lower stories of the Gaol Buildings to be flooded. Edward Bell, City Engineer, reports that the blockage is caused by large quantities of soil mixed with oakum, cocoa fibre, shavings and other rubbish which comes from the closets of the Gaol. He recommends the immediate construction of a trapped gully in the sewer in Forbes Street. He estimates the cost would not exceed £20. To be carried out.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
