Edward Bell, City Engineer, responding to instruction from the Mayor to report what improvement can be made in the mains to afford a better and more constant supply of water to South Sydney and Redfern from the Crown Street Reservoir. He recommends a 12 inch main be laid direct from the reservoir along Gipps Street to Elizabeth Street and then connected with the Redfern main. He estimates the cost would not exceed £770.
