Unique IDA-00299466SeriesLetters Received [Municipal Council of Sydney]DateBetween 9th October 1871 and 2nd February 1872Date qualifierexactFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter: Redfern Municipal Council re the problem with sewer drainage in Botany Rd Redfern compounded during rain by water coming from the City of Sydney and proposing to building a stoneware pipe drain from the bottom of James St to the culvert on the west side of Botany Rd and requesting Sydney Muncipal Council share the cost. (Note: I find that a gully shaft has been built by this Corporation at the south east corner of Botany and Cleveland Streets to receive the water from about 180 yards in length of open gutter draining the Church of England School etc. and the water is conveyed through a pipe drain into the open gutter course on the east side of Botany Street in the Redfern Municipality. As this is the natural outlet (and there is no other practicable means of drainage) and the amount of water conveyed into the Redfern Municipality being so very small I think this Council ought not to contribute towards the expense of laying a stoneware pipe drain as requested: EB; 20/1/72.1/2/72 To be informed accordingly: MC. 2/2/72 reply: CHW) LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
