(Note: I have the honor to inform you that a meter bond was entered into by Messrs Cahill Smith & Co for the premises herein mentioned, and was shut off for arrears of rates. Mr Hardman has now applied to have the water on the premises again in there own name. Mr Smith one of the former occupants is still upon the premises carrying on the business: Geo Clayton;17/10/71. 19/10/71 City Solicitor report: MC. Messrs Hardman Brothers are entitled to have the water laid in upon their application if the premises are a mere dwelling house etc. That question having already been decided by the full Court in the case of Hamilton v The Mayor & ors The parties giving the bond in the first instances can alone be held responsible for the rates due but for a Mill where the Council are empowered to make a special arrangement as in the present case Messrs Hardman Brothers cannot compel the Council to comply with their request: R Driver; 26/10/71. 10/11/71 reply: CHW) LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
