Unique IDA-00305827SeriesLetters Received [Municipal Council of Sydney]DateBetween 22nd November 1880 and 8th January 1881Date qualifierexactFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter: WHR Bayley 240 Crown St, following notification in August to the City Building Surveyor and Thomas McCulloch, the owner of the adjoining Pitt St property, in accordance with the Building Act re the dangerous state of one of the party walls, he requests Mr Sapsford report on the matter so the necessary steps can be taken to resolve the matter. (Note: I have visited and inspected this matter and find that the wall referred to consists of an external wall to kitchen ?re the property of Mr Bayley having been built 4½ on the adjoining land the property of Mr T McCulloch. No objection is raised to having the wall pulled down, which is dangerous, but there is no provision in the City Improvement Act compelling Mr McCulloch to allow the same to be rebuilt on his property. Mr Bayley is evidently under the impression that Mr McCulloch is bound to pay half of the cost of a new wall, this would be the case supposing Mr McCulloch utilised the wall as a party wall which he does not propose to do: THS;13/12/80.
