Henry Harris & Co, Auctioneers and General Commission Merchants, 199 Pitt Street, Sydney to The Mayor complaining about the conduct of George Baker Inspector of Nuisances who attended the rooms during a sale, disrupted the process by his presence and refused to leave. He had been asked to visit the rooms either before or after a sale when staff would assist him with any items he wished to inspect. On a previous occasion he had condemned so dates which the merchant had objected to and this was upheld by the Medical Officer called in by the Inspector. Report in response from Inspector of Nuisances the foodstuffs offered were often in poor condition, Mr Harris behaved violently and threatened him, the sale when he visited was conducted in such a way to prevent inspection of goods and he was harassed by Mr Harris. The other officer who attended (J. Barry) could corroborate. Note of Town Clerk that Mr Harris asked to call upon the Mayor.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
