He saw very few blocks in stock and called for the contract to be cancelled if blocks were not obtained immediately [see 26/283/188]. He felt that the work being carried out there was a waste of time and called for four of the six men to be dismissed and the other two to be dismissed as soon as the yard was cleared. Mr Lee reported to the City Surveyor explaining in great detail exactly what the men were doing and pointing out that as soon as the blocks were delivered all men would be required for the task. He conclude his report by stating that "The best and most careful men are employed at the Kent Street Depot and their time used to the best advantage and at work that must be done". City Surveyor asks whether, in the light of this report, does the Mayor still wish to dismiss the men for "as soon as the blocks come in their services will be very much needed".LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
